Beginner Keyboard Course
with Tim West
Our keyboard course consists of 45 lessons that teach the beginner about
music and playing in a way that makes it accessible and enjoyable.
Quite simply, Tim West is a musical evangelist. He has played and taught for twenty years in a wide variety of styles and environments. He was classically trained as a bassoonist and pianist and has played for Sir Charles Groves, Sir Roger Norrington, Charles Dutoit, Leonard Bernstein and Nigel Kennedy amongst others. As a conductor, he has worked with soloists such as Emma Johnson, Anthony Marwood and Ed Schearmurr.
Tim's love of music is wide ranging. He spent a year playing guitar and keyboards in a five-piece circus band. He has played keyboards and saxophones with Akasha at Ronnie Scott's and on the jazz stage at Glastonbury (supporting Herbie Hancock and Faithless). He loves rock 'n' roll and has played with artists such as Medicine Head, UFO, Steve Hyams of Mott the Hoople and Johnny Borrell in his first incarnation of Razorlight.
Tim has held several head of music posts and has taught music academically and practically for many years at all levels. He runs a 40 strong community choir each week, plays organ at a local almshouse chapel and has just recorded and arranged sixty songs for Singing Hands, a singing signing group for children with learning difficulties. With them he is appearing on the BBC for a run later in the year.
